Learn more about Montage Group

See below for a list of questions we get asked a lot about Montage Group as a whole. For questions specific to kitchens, doors, or wardrobes, visit the FAQ page on the relevant site.

What is Montage Group?

Montage Group is one family-owned joinery company, based in Frankton, Hamilton. We operate under three specialist brand names — Montage Kitchens & Joinery, Montage Doors, and Montage Wardrobes — but these aren’t separate businesses. They share the same facilities, the same staff, the same machinery and resources. The brands exist to give each core area of what we do a clear identity and a streamlined process, not because the company behind them is fragmented.

We also have a commercial joinery and fit-out division, working on everything from office fit-outs to hospitality and retail spaces.

Montage traces back to 1980, when founder Ken Monk began the business that became Waikato Woodware, later renamed Montage Kitchens & Joinery in 1991. We’ve been operating continuously from Frankton, Hamilton, for over four decades.

Montage Group is family-owned. It was founded by Ken and Rowena Monk and is now run by their sons, Jared and Michael Monk — the second generation of the family to lead the business.

Montage was founded by Ken Monk in 1981, originally trading as Waikato Woodware. Ken went on to become a significant figure in the New Zealand joinery industry, serving as President of the New Zealand Joinery Manufacturers Federation and later receiving Honorary Life Membership of Master Joiners. He passed away in 2017, after which his wife Rowena led the business before handing it on to their sons.

Yes — and it’s genuinely simpler than it might sound, because it’s all one company. Kitchens, doors, and wardrobes aren’t separate businesses that need to be “coordinated” — they’re different arms of the same team, working from the same Frankton site, sharing the same staff and resources. If you’re doing a whole-home renovation, you’re dealing with one business throughout, not three.

No. Montage Group is an independent, family-owned business — not a franchise, and not a network of contractors. Every part of the process, design, manufacturing, and installation, is carried out by our own people, in our own Frankton workshop and showroom, with our own machinery. There’s no head office somewhere else setting the rules, and no separately contracted tradespeople doing the installation work.

Montage Group holds membership with the National Kitchen and Bathroom Association New Zealand (NKBA NZ) and is a registered Master Joiners member, alongside SiteWise Gold health and safety certification.

Yes. Our commercial division covers office fit-outs, hospitality and retail joinery, education spaces, churches and community centres, reception desks, and other commercial cabinetry projects, alongside our residential kitchen, door and wardrobe brands.

We service Hamilton, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Matamata, Raglan, Coromandel, Rotorua, Taupo, Te Kuiti, the wider Waikato, Bay of Plenty, and South Auckland.

We will sometimes travel outside these areas for the right project (such as an existing customers holiday home)

Online kit-set wardrobe and door orders can be delivered anywhere in New Zealand.

We’ve even completed custom joinery flatpacks delivered to the Pacific Islands!

Yes. Our Frankton showroom covers kitchens, laundries, wardrobes, interior doors and commercial fit-outs — all under one roof. It’s the best way to see the difference between finishes, hardware options and layouts in person, rather than trying to judge them from a screen.

You don’t need an appointment to browse, but if you want to talk through a specific project with one of our team, booking a consultation in advance means we can make sure the right person is available for you.

All displays are at 121–123 Ellis Street, Frankton, Hamilton. Open Monday to Friday.
